Objectives for the Breed

First and foremost, our aim is to raise awareness of the Swiss Mountain Dogs in the United Kingdom, in particular the existence of the three shorthaired breeds; the Greater Swiss mountain Dog, the Appenzeller and the Entlebucher.

Even in their country of origin, numbers of dogs of these breeds are still relatively limited with the Entlebucher being the most rare out of the four. Distribution of the shorthaired breeds is slightly more widespread in Europe; notably Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. In the UK , the presence of the short haired Swiss Mountain dog breeds  has been more or less unknown but awareness  has now begun with the introduction in 2002 of our Entlebuchers; Kenzo and Chloe.

The Entlebucher Mountain dog is now a recognized breed with the British Kennel Club with a known total of 9 dogs resident in the UK. This has been followed by the introduction of several Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs; pictures of which can be found on this site. The application for acceptance of the breed by the Kennel Club is currently in progress.

By knowing more about these breeds and their background, it is hoped that people can better understand their individual characteristics, needs and requirements. We hope to give people an awareness and knowledge as to what these breeds have to offer, thereby gaining an insight into the commitment of owning one.
